We were fortunate to meet salt-of-the-earth folks who strive to lift up those around them and they do this far from the limelight. Here are two organizations that make a profound difference everyday.

Miss Queen and her team were shook by what happened after the death of Michael Brown and were inspired to make a difference through direct action. They could have easily stayed in air conditioned offices and waited for the people to come to them but instead they went into the streets to meet the people where they are at. Since 2014, Miss Queen has worked tirelessly to house families (preventing the break up of families), to educate the young, and to advise those seeking direction in life. The difference they have made to date is real and they continue to hit the streets everyday.

Pastor Corey Brooks helms Project H.O.O.D. and he along with men like Varney Voker provide mentorship to the youth in their community.

“Project H.O.O.D.’s programming is designed to equip youth, adults, and families with the resources, skills, tools and experiences that are needed to be successful, healthy, and upwardly mobile members of society.  We seek to empower, not enable.  We seek to equip, not excuse.  We seek to inform, not ignore.  Project H.O.O.D.’s goal is to be at the forefront of innovation and transformation on the South Side of Chicago and specifically within the Englewood and Woodlawn communities.”
